God works in mysterious ways. GOD is larger than life--bigger than anxiety, hopes, fears, dreams, or aspirations. . . He is amazingly confident, powerful, and in control. God continues to make all of our dreams come true-- We all prayed, (well a majority of us,) prayed for a change we all can believe in, and God touched the minds of our nation to speak equality and mean it. We meant it when we put our President-elect, Barack Obama, into office, we meant it when we carefully considered each ballot and educated ourselves in politics more than ever.
I am saying all of this only to point out a very pivotal point: God MAKES our wildest dreams come true! He not only made a "black" president a reality to sit in the throne of the "White House," (no pun intended,) but he also made my dreams of experiencing this magnanimous moment in history, a reality. I had a meeting with a few business professionals who practically scoffed at me when I said that I wanted to attend the 44th presidential inauguration. Every one's reply was: 'Are you kidding? Do you know how hard the tickets are to come by? You are better off watching at home along with the other billions of people.'
As many of you know, I can't just settle and sit quietly. I prayed for a ticket to the inauguration, I even sent out multiple emails as many of you have to the Senator to acquire one of these golden tickets.
Nothing.
Then one day, as I went out to conduct another one of my interviews, I came in contact with a friend from my old church. This friend of mine was beaming with joy because she herself had acquired tickets-- not one, but two tickets. I celebrated with my friend, and was genuinely happy for her, all the while thinking: 'I wish I had a ticket!
So to make a long story short, I continued to send e-mails in fervent search for an inauguration ticket, hoping that someone would grant me a ticket to complete my dream. I didn't give up, I trusted God. I notice that when you don't fret, and you just BELEIVE God, he always comes through, he never fails! The very friend that acquired two tickets in turn to decided (out of all of the in numerous people harassing her,) that I was the one worthy of the ticket. This person sacrificed for me and blessed me with an unexpected blessing! What a miracle! Only God can make the impossible possible!
So now I had the ticket, and I was ready to go-- but there was something missing. I wanted to write about the experience, and inside I secretly wanted to get paid for it. Did I dare? Did I dare speak my thoughts out loud and claim my blessing? Even though I was petrified, and uncertain, I just let it go and trusted God-- And a couple days later I got an email from the City Editor of New England's award winning newspaper, the Telegraph, (who had heard from another editor that I was attending the inauguration,) requesting if I would be willing to share my inaugural adventures for their online blog and newspaper. And the icing on the cake was that I'd be greeting paid, and generously. God! As if that wasn't enough, another publication emailed me and requested a write up also. And they too, would pay me generously! God!
All I can say is GOD! I am excited, nervous, excited and hopeful! If God brought me this far and made a way, then I know He is going to walk with me every step of the way at this inauguration. I too, like the billions of people all around the world, want a piece of history. And I know, I TRUST that God will plant me, as well as others, the opportunity to sit in the seat of honor-- front row, amid the frantic screams and cheers, to relish the broken chains of the past, and celebrate side by side with Barack Obama.
I'll see you at the Inauguration!
